Cut a piece of foam in size with a carpet knife or foam scissors. You can use an already made seat cushion as a template, or measure your seat with tape measure. An easy way to make your dining chair cushion exactly match your place is to place the chair up and down on top of the foam. Trace around the seat with a marker and cut out foam along the traced lines. Place foam over a piece of fabric with the print side facing up. Cut off excess material, which means about one inch on all sides for seam allowance. Remove your foam from the fabric and the PIN sides together along the traced lines.
Sew two opposite sides together to make a pocket. A straight stitch is good for this project. For extra strength in your dining chair cushion, add an extra row of sewing on both sides of your pocket. This prevents threads from ripping when you put your foam. This removes all wrinkles before putting the foam in place. Slide your pillow foam into the fabric pocket, press firmly into the corners to ensure proper fit. Sew open side closed hand.
